Our approach
Tapestry Play Therapy takes an integrative approach to play therapy, drawing on a range of evidence-based modalities rather than one single technique. The approach is thoughtfully matched to your child's needs, and adjusted as needed based on their progress. Approaches drawn on include:
-
Humanistic Play Therapy is a child-led, approach where your child sets the pace and direction of each session. The therapist follows their lead, offering a warm, accepting space for them to express feelings, thoughts, and experiences through play, in whatever way feels natural to them. This process helps children process emotions, work through challenges, and build confidence and self-understanding, all within a safe, gently guided environment.
-
Learn to Play Therapy teaches essential play skills that support your child's overall development and social interactions. Play abilities are gently assessed and then nurtured, as pretend play has a key role in building problem-solving, language, emotional integration, and flexible thinking. As play skills grow, children become more able to express and understand themselves, make sense of the world around them, and connect with their peers. Suited to children up to 10 years of age, this evidence-based, empowering approach builds confidence alongside language, social, and emotional growth.
-
Filial Play Therapy trains you, as the parent or caregiver, to hold regular "special playtimes" with your child using core skills learned alongside your therapist. This evidence-based approach can help strengthen the bond between you and your child while equipping you with practical, therapeutic play skills. By gaining a deeper understanding of your child's world, you help them feel more understood. This often supports a healthier expression of emotions and better coping strategies as well as building on self-esteem and confidence for all involved.
